With deep sorrow, we have to say farewell to John Zack, our colleague and friend in IEA Wind since 2017, when we started Task 36 and all along Task 51.

On May 24, 2025 just days before he was to attend the ICEM conference in Padua, Italy, we lost John — an immense loss for our leadership team and all who knew him. While heartbroken, we are grateful for his profound impact.

John was a world-renowned expert in atmospheric modelling, renewable energy forecasting and had a rare ability to bridge science and industry. His leadership and ability to be a teamplayer on all levels, brought key projects to life, such as the IEA Wind Recommended Practice for Renewable Energy Forecasting (Elsevier, 2022)

Beyond his brilliance, John was humble, kind, generous, inspirational and always good fun — leaving an indelible mark on all of us.

…in the wind’s whisper,
John’s legacy forever
flows through our
community…
