Knowing the atmosphere and its developments is the basis for forecasting all horizons beyond a few hours. Especially with the new emphasis on seasonal forecasting and forecasts for storage management, the weather forecasts are in focus. This workstream spans mostly WP1, where the larger meteorological centers are at home, but crosses over into WP2, where the derived application variables need knowledge of meteorology.
