Keynote Session at the 2022 102nd American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting:
Session 11.1Best Practices for the Selection of Optimal Forecast Solutions for Renewable Electricity Generation Applications

In this session John Zack provided in his presentation a description and examples of the key issues that motivated the compilation of the IEA Wind Task 36  4-part document series entitled “Recommended Practice for Selecting Renewable Power Forecasting Solutions” (RP-FSS)” , the characteristics of state-of-the art forecast solutions, the performance range for indiscriminately selected forecast solutions and an overview of the key recommendations compiled by the Task 36 international panel including an estimate of the potential impact of these recommendations on the value of wind and solar generation forecasts in electric system applications.

Additionally, Corinna Möhrlen provided a background and introduction presentation to the Probabilistic Forecasting Games and Experiment Initiative with an interactive Game Teaser in the Kahoot! environment, which contained a subset of the cases of the currently running official forecasting game — it can still be played here — and more information about the game and the initiative can be found here.
